CBS NFL play-by-play man Greg Gumbel has signed a new contract at CBS, but is stepping down from calling NFL games.
Sports Business Journal is reporting Greg will continue in his role as host of the network’s college basketball coverage.
He is currently hosting the NCAA men’s basketball tournament studio show for CBS, marking his 25th year of hosting the March Madness show.
Greg has spent over three decades a part of CBS’ NFL coverage, which includes calling the Super Bowl as a play-by-play announcer in 2001 and 2004.
He started with CBS as host of “The NFL Today” pregame show from 1990-93, but moved to host NBC after CBS lost NFL rights from 1994-98. He re-joined CBS in 1998 when the network picked up the AFC package from NBC.
Greg has spent the last few seasons calling the action alongside Adam Archuleta.
