CNN is celebrating 44 years on the air today!

The Cable News Network, founded by Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld, launched at 5 p.m. on June 1, 1980.

After an introduction by Ted Turner, the husband-and-wife team of David Walker and Lois Hart hosted the channel’s first broadcast.
