BBC News presenter Victoria Derbyshire has announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer

The 46-year-old announced on Twitter this evening that she would undergo a mastectomy as part of her treatment.

“Hi, have been diagnosed with breast cancer & am having a mastectomy in a few wks. Family, friends, work & NHS staff are being brilliant,” said Victoria.

“Will be doing the programme as much as possible during treatment in the months ahead”

She currently presents a current affairs and debate programme on BBC Two and the BBC News Channel from 9.15am each weekday morning.

She formerly presented the morning news/current affairs and interview programme on BBC Radio 5 Live between 10 am and 12 noon each weekday, and was a 5 Live presenter for 16 years before departing in late 2014.

The BBC said: “We wish Victoria a full & speedy recovery & look forward to having her back full time as soon as possible. “
