Tv broadcaster Mike Neville has stepped down from fronting the region’s evening news.

The veteran presenter admitted to the Chronicle today he will not be returning to his role, having not appeared on the small screen since undergoing an emergency operation to remove a blood clot last summer.

Mike, 69, was rushed to hospital last July and has spent the last 11 months recuperating at his Whickham home, always with the hope of returning to present the Tyne Tees TV news.
