ABC News Western Australia presenter Alica Gorey has left her position at the ABC in Perth, and will return to Melbourne after attending her sister’s wedding in the US. The decision, which she gave to ABC boss Kim Jordan yesterday, is a result of her boyfriend’s decision to take a job in her hometown.

The former Triple J and ABC Local Radio reporter and presenter will take up a senior position at the Nine Network’s Melbourne newsroom. Potential replacements include weekend presenter Craig Smart and reporter Frances Bell. Jordan would not be drawn on whether a decision has been made as to who will take her position.

“Alicia has been a tremendous front person for us,” Jordan said.

“No decision has been made on the week-night anchor … We will be considering all our options.”

In other news from the West, Natalia Cooper, weather presenter for National Nine News Perth and presenter of WIN News Western Australia, has resigned from Nine Perth to travel overseas.

Ian McRae, the WIN Corporation-owned station’s General Manager, said “We are proud to have been involved with Natalia’s career development and to see her come of age as a presenter…as well as being popular with viewers, Natalia has been a big hit on regular school visits and is also a very popular member of the National Nine and WIN News teams.”
