Kate Gerbeau

Kate Gerbeau currently presents the Five News lunchtime bulletin at 1130 each weekday.

Before joining Five News, Kate worked at the BBC – presenting the news bulletins in Breakfast. Gerbeau, formerly Sanderson, first joined the BBC in 1997 when she fronted the UK’s longest running childrens news programme Newsround.

During her seven years with the BBC, Kate was seen on numerous, and varied projects – one minute reporting from the scene of an erupting volcano in Monserrat, or an earthquake in India, the next wing walking across the English Channel on Record Breakers, or interviewing George Benson about his door to door evangelizing as a Jehovah’s Witness on BBC’s Heaven and Earth show.

Kate’s work on the plight of children in Russian Orphanages, where she filmed under cover, earned her a BAFTA in 2000. She also spent three series as a presenter and reporter on consumer show Watchdog.

Kate got her television break in Channel 5’s dating show Attractions and rejoined the channel in 2005 where she was appointed as the presenter of Five’s 7pm news bulletin and evening updates on Thursdays and Fridays as well as the channel’s weekend bulletins. However, News At Noon presenter Charlie Stayt left in March 2005 and Kate took over his role, which included overseeing the bulletins move to 11.30am.
