Sky News Radio is launching next year, making it the UK’s first dedicated 24-hour news station. It is one of 10 new national stations on a multiplex just licenced by the regulator Ofcom.
The multiplex – led by Channel 4 and part-owned by Sky News Radio – will also allow the delivery of other multimedia services such as text and data services.
The radio station marks a major expansion for Sky’s radio division which syndicates material to 60 stations including talkSPORT, Heart, LBC and Century.
Sky News says it will be drawing on the skills and knowledge of many people within the company to establish the station as THE place for breaking news and top class reporting on the radio.
