Royal Television Society announce changes to Television Journalism Awards

The Royal Television Society (RTS) has announced changes to the Television Journalism Awards 2013/2014.

The awards, for news and current affairs, seek to recognise creative and excellent journalism by organisations whose broadcasts are transmitted on a UK based platform.

The changes include the introduction of the News Technology Award. The News Technology Award will take over from the Innovative News Award and recognises the most impressive achievement by an individual or team in using technology to advance television journalism.

Other changes this year include the Nations and Regions News Award (formerly Nations and Regions News Programme) which will now consider either a single major news story or a series of stories over the course of the year and the Judges Award which will be presented to an individual or a production team in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the advancement of Television Journalism either specifically in the past year or in the case of an individual, over the course of their career.

Stewart Purvis, Professor of Television Journalism, City University and the new Chair of the Awards said: “The RTS Television Journalism Awards celebrate the hard work, dedication and skill of news and current affairs journalists. These awards are incredibly important in recognising the extraordinary breadth of talent we have in the industry who ensure the public remains informed of today’s most significant issues and stories.”

The closing date for entries is 21 November 2014. All entries must have been first transmitted on television via cable or satellite in the UK between 16 November 2013 and 15 November 2014.

The Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 18 February 2015 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. The host of the event will be announced in due course.
