The 16th and final day of Rio 2016 takes place today with live TV coverage on the BBC.

Ore Oduba introduces the first slice of action from 1pm on BBC One as the athletics programme comes to an end with the men’s marathon taking place at Sambodromo from 13.30. Tsegai Tewelde and brothers Derek and Callum Hawkins representing Great Britain.

The men’s cross-country mountain biking event gets under way at the Mountain Bike Centre at 16.30, but there will be no British involvement in the race after the squad failed to qualify.

There is also a chance to see some of the highlights of the past 15 days, and a preview of tonight’s closing ceremony, which promises to be a spectacular event as Rio hands over to Tokyo, hosts of the 2020 Games.

Coverage switches to BBC Two at 5pm and features coverage of boxing finals from Riocentro in the women’s middleweight and men’s flyweight divisions at 18.00 and 18.15 respectively. The men’s cross-country mountain biking is scheduled to finish at around 18.15 at the Mountain Bike Centre.

Coverage moves back to BBC One at 6.30pm, where Clare Balding Clare Balding presents.

Men’s boxing takes centre stage at Riocentro, with the light-welterweight final at 19.00 followed by the super-heavyweight final at 19.15.

Team GB’s reigning Commonwealth and European Games champion Joe Joyce faces world champion Tony Yoka of France with the aim of emulating fellow Londoner Anthony Joshua, who won the gold medal four years ago and is now IBF heavyweight champion in the professional ranks.

There is also a review of the Games, featuring all the highs, lows and memorable moments from the first summer Olympics to be held in South America.

Then from 11.25pm on BBC One – The Closing Ceremony. After more than two weeks of tense and exciting competition that will live long in the memory, the athletes can now relax as their achievements are recognised and celebrated in spectacular fashion.

The ceremony includes the official handover to Tokyo, hosts of the 2020 Summer Olympics, before the Games are declared closed and the flame is extinguished.
