Where are you from?
Bolton, Lancashire.

How did you get started in broadcasting?
I was a news trainee after university in 1987.

Why News broadcasting?
It’s exciting..well some of the time anyway.

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
I’ve worked on Current Affairs programmes as well like Black Britain and Hard Cash. I’ve also presented documentaries on BBC 2.

What is your Best on-air moment?
Going live from Mozambique during the 2000 floods helping mobilise an international relief effort.

What is your Worst on-air moment?
On Radio 5 Live mispronouncing kurds as turds. John Inverdale was interviewing me about a court case. I tried to keep my composure..he cracked up and then so did I.

What would you like to do before your career ends?
I’d like to report from space.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love the cinema and jazz.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Develop a thick skin.
