Angela Corpe – Q&A

Name?
Angela Corpe

Age?
NOT TELLING!

Where are you from?
Kent

How did you get started in Broadcasting?
I did a degree in Journalism & my NCTJs, then joined Sky Sports News as a runner making the tea and coffee and photocopying the scripts!

When was that?

Why News Broadcasting?
It’s so varied – you never know what stories you’ll be covering, you get to meet lots of interesting people and when a major story breaks I’m not interested in anything else!

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
ITV News (reporting) and GMTV (reporting and newsreading)

What is your Best on-air moment?
Being able to tell the nation that my beloved Liverpool were Champions of Europe last year after one of the most exciting games I’ve ever seen!

What is your Worst on-air moment?
Having to read the rest of the news that morning with an enormous hangover and having had just an hours sleep after the celebrations before I got up to go to work!!

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Make a difference. Seeing the power of television news when Michael Buerk covered the famine in Ethiopia 20 years ago was one of the reasons I wanted to be a reporter.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Snowboarding (although I’m not very good!) watching CSI and 24 on tele, and taking holidays in far flung places.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Keep going! Read the papers every day, watch different news programmes to see how and why all the channels cover the same stories in a different way and get experience from wherever you can. Work for free, and don’t be afraid to start at the bottom … I did!

It’s a tough industry to get into, and even tougher once you get a foot in the door – even then you’ll need to work overtime and on your days off for free to get the experience you need. You’ve got to be organised, prepared for anything, and dedicated. It’s a job with long and unsociable hours and lots of pressure – but it’s one of the most interesting and exciting careers I can think of!

A big thanks to Angela for taking part.
