Troon, Ayrshire (Scotland’s south-west coast)

How did you get started in broadcasting?
Graduated from Glasgow University with MA in French and Philosophy and then applied for job with news department of Regional radio station Scot FM, based in Edinburgh. Got job in the sports department instead.

When was that?
1997

Why News broadcasting?
Love all sports and played golf to high amateur standard

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Doing rugby or golf commentary on BBC TV and radio. One of the main TV Commentators now and am preparing for the 6 Nations. In golf, commentate on Open Championsip, Ryder Cup, US Masters, US Open, USPGA and many more.

What is your Best on-air moment?
Being at the 16th green at Augusta last year to commentate on Tiger Woods chipping in for a birdie on his way to victory.

What is your Worst on-air moment?
When I had just started in radio, running to the studio to try and make a bulletin and finding myself starting to hyper-ventilate while trying to read it.

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Commentate on Scotland winning the Rugby World Cup or Colin Montgomerie winning a major.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Play golf, walk my dog, go the gym, play guitar.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Have a thick skin and listen to good broadcasters to see and hear how they do it.
