How did you get started in broadcasting?
I got a three month contract as a researcher at BBC Scotland and 23 years later I’m still here.

When was that?
1983

Why News broadcasting?
The immediacy, the compelling attraction of watching events unfold without knowing how they will turn out.

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Radio 4. BBC TV News. BBC World.

What is your Worst on-air moment?
Falling asleep with exhaustion in Baghdad while being two-wayed by Sue McGregor on the Today porgramme.

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Make sure that it won’t end.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Read, walk, talk, be sociable, go to Scotland.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Carpe diem.
