Wigan will travel to the City Ground tonight to take on Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Capital One Cup.
Forest had to overcome a tough first round test in the shape of Football League newcomers Fleetwood Town. A 57th-minute goal from Dexter Blackstock was enough to send Sean O’Driscoll’s men through.
The Reds have lifted the trophy no less than four times. Their most recent triumph was in 1990 when they beat Oldham Athletic 1-0 at Wembley Stadium.
Wigan reached the final of the competition in 2006 where they played Manchester United. The Red Devils ran out 4-0 winners in front of 66,000 people at the Millennium Stadium.
This will be the first time the sides have played each other in the League Cup.
Their four previous encounters all came in the league. Forest are unbeaten in those games, although three ended as draws.
The match will broadcast live on Sky Sports 2 from 7.30pm tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
There are another 22 matches taking place in the competition tonight, one tomorrow, and another televised game on Thursday evening.
You can catch the highlights of all 25 games on the Football League Show on Thursday, 11.20pm on BBC One.
