First pictures came through with Mark and Kay in the afternoon. We had Tim Marshall in the studio for a long time this afternoon giving his analysis, and a variety of guests on the line and in Westminster.

They crossed live to a Fox Correspondant in Baghdad, but where is David Chater??? He is in Iraq, but I haven’t sene him be used yet.

Just about to post the same sentiments on the DC forum…I think Sky have really lost out on this one to eg CNN Intl. This evening they put Marshall “behind” the Sky wall to look like he’s somewhere else for pete’s sake. (who was pete and why’s it for his sake btw…I digress).

I missed that, where was he standing? Behind the newswall eg in front of it? Or in the newsroom?

I don’t know where he was. Maybe in the newsroom/gents/who knows! He appeared as if they were talking to him from eg Baghdad, his image on the newswall but not physically in the studio. Whichever bright spark made that decision…oops.

CNN were the first people given the edited footage by the US military, so beating them was an impossibility. That was the intention for the start, CBS then transmitted them by satellite at which point everyone else could grab it.

I didn’t mean the speed of getting it out on air. As soon as I heard a “western” TV crew I thought either CBS or Fox (thought Fox were Bush’s favourite station? Bummer this time). I meant the way the story was reported.

    Hiding in his hotel room?

Actually, I think he was down in the Basra area last week.

And yes, putting Tim Marshall on the newswall from elsewhere in the studio was pretty rubbish.

Soham-style Saddam trial reconstructions, anyone? JT stars as Saddam?

I think they really should not have had taht body language specialist in for so long, he kept repeating himself and Tim Marshall just kept butting in to say the same thing – very dull

I thought it was ridiculous how they seemed to be reporting to start with how they thought he would probably look and not how he actually did. They were saying how he looked cowed and frightened, but then they had to change their story when they got the actual footage.

Body language specialists are always rubbish. They shouldn’t be consulted on anything.

Body Language specialists are a little flimsy, I agree. They can interpret it however they want, a point demonstrated by the fact that one thought he had losta lot of weight, and looked nervous, while the other one insisted on remarking on how cowed he looked! He didn’t look cowed when he was bellowing at the judge!

Yes, I thought he was looking quite healthy! Well, he ought to look better after a few months in jail than a few months living in a hole.

Oh gawd, a horror thought – please don’t suggest that Sky will do nightly ‘re-enactments’ of Saddam’s trial when it (if it) happens, starring macho tashed actORs who you’ve never heard of speaking in dodgy “iraqi” accents.

Kind of the US military to let him keep using his black hair dye, after the vicious old B******’s “heart rending ” claims that he was being ill-treated. And the smart suits too. Maybe he should try Guantanamo for size?!

Hey, they did it with Soham, and this is a much higher profile trial – trial of the millenium! Mind you, they said it was “journalists” rather than actors reading it and the courtroom was recreated graphically. I doubt they would speak in Iraqi accents. It would all be in Arabic, so they will just talk in English I would think.

Ah, but they had to make him look fine for his court appearance, I doubt they let him wear the suit in jail!! Maybe he should try Belmarsh.
