i also saw the programme. it was the first time i think that sni stayed on until 8pm on the 7pm show. it was pretty good. pitty they had some of the same reports as last night though. i agree with you that it should be a national day of mourning but then again if it was most people would stay in bed rather than go to mass.

i agree with you that it should be a national day of mourning

    WHAT?!?!?!?

No thanks… that would cost the economy and espeically small businesses too much! If you want to pay your respects, then go to mass in the evening, don’t bother doing anything on Saturday, stay in a church and pray, but NO THANKS to the national day of mourning a.k.a special national day of getting pissed and smashing up DART trains.

You know yourselves that it would not be appreciated at all. If you want a national day of mourning, then make Sunday a national day of mourning, or how about Saturday – I’d like hear your choice of things to do on Saturday – 1/ go to mass or 2/ Bet on the Grand National … and if they make Friday a national day of mourning, it’ll just be an extra day for getting pissed. – for example, there were people whining that we should have national day of mourning after the sunami, however I recall myself talking to on eof those lefty morons and he couldn’t mention one country affected by the sunami, in fact, I’m under the impression that he thought “Sunami” was the name of a country. – so, you can see my point of view, and I too can understand why socialists like as many days off as possible.

i understand that it would be taken for granted. i think thats a very good idea they should have it at a weekend i’d like to see peoples reaction then. i think that the gov. or whover decided to give schools friday off were very stupid. ya sure 15 and 16 year olds are surly going to get up at 10’clock to go to mass rather than take a lie in and make a long weekend out of it. bad move!!

Oh Mr. Byrne. People like you are what is so wrong with this country…this now Godless Nation. To be more worried about the economy and business… It’s ONE damn day. But yes…I forgot. The new God…MONEY.
And please – don’t you DARE assume that all people in this country spend their days drinking and backing horses. Please don’t measure me by your values. Your insinuation is downright insulting.
The reason Friday should be the national day of mourning is because that is the day of the late Pope’s funeral. People want to see that funeral. Yes…how inconsiderate of the Vatican not to accommodate you by not having it on Sunday.
We had a national day of mourning for 9/11…but then that was the Americans and God do we have to suck up to them. Bertie and Co. have to keep in with them. Money again of course and letting them use Shannon for their murder flights on Iraq. Most other countries are having a national day of mourning, even Communist Cuba. We’re a bloody shame.
You talk about ‘lefty morans’ while sounding so like a ‘right wing fascist’. We have a Government of hypocrites who will run off to Rome and kiss ass and claim to represent the Irish people. Well they do not. A poll on Sky News shows the vast majority (80% or more) wanting this day and another on TV 3 has 96% agreeing to a day. Bertie just says ‘No’. Strangely when we said ‘no’ once to the Nice referendum, he didn’t listen to that. This Government needs to remember one truth. We do not work for THEM. They’re supposed to work for US.
Of course tippguy mentions about those 15 and 16 year olds… Well of course they won’t go to Mass if they have parents with your values who give them the same example of money worship over God and the church.
Well Mr. Byrne…YOU go into work on Friday. Study a dictionary and learn how to spell Tsunami while you’re there. I’ll be watching the funeral of a great man who led a Christian life and taught Christian values…who served his church and people for 26 years. You should actually try to learn something from him and save your money grabbing soul.

    Well said Kate!

Mr Byrne you tend to rant on lke a lunatic at the best of times…. You need to wake up and realize you are a living breathing human being and not just a money making machine with no soul.

As an Irish person I get annoyed reading your posts at times, I hope anyone reading them who isn’t Irish don’t go away thinking that we all have your mad point of view on things. That been said I have and do agree with you on 1 or 2 subjects that we have covered on this forum from time to time but I’ve also cringed at some of the other comments you have made.

Ah well I’m sure your not going to change…just thought I’d start off a rant of my own!

Wow. A fan on Dana’s are we? Are you one of those whiners that didn’t benefit from the Celtic Tiger and want us all to go back to the days of the leprechauns?

People like you are what is so wrong with this country…this now Godless Nation. To be more worried about the economy and business… It’s ONE damn day. But yes…I forgot. The new God…MONEY.

I don’t think Ireland is a godless nation. Money is not my god ut, I wouldn’t be anywhere without and neither would you. Of course, you’ve gotten the wrong impression of me, of course, there are things that are more important than money.

don’t you DARE assume that all people in this country spend their days drinking and backing horses. Please don’t measure me by your values. Your insinuation is downright insulting

There are people in Ireland whose social life are plainly drinking and to a lesser extent gambling.

The reason Friday should be the national day of mourning is because that is the day of the late Pope’s funeral. People want to see that funeral

Sure I’ll possibly watch it myself and I do plan to go to mass this Friday to pay my respects, as I also did last Sunday. The Taoiseach has encouraged people to pray, attend mass and I think a lot of businesses will allow employees to go and watch the funeral or attend a mass in the morning. We don’t need the whole day off to do that, surely you’d agree. I mean, maybe your the exception but I don’t think everyone is going to be praying ALL day.

Yes…how inconsiderate of the Vatican not to accommodate you by not having it on Sunday.

Don’t give up your day job.

We had a national day of mourning for 9/11…but then that was the Americans and God do we have to suck up to them.

It was a good call and it didn’t affect the the economy to a large extent. 9/11 did that itself. Plus, the Nasdaq and Dow Jones were also closed for a several days.

Bertie and Co. have to keep in with them. Money again of course and letting them use Shannon for their murder flights on Iraq.

Christ sake, when the Americans stopped using shannon temporarily, they just went to Frankfurt. It didn’t stop the war, whats your point? Can’t we earn a bit of money on the shannon stop-overs? Can’t we we keep a good relationship with the Americans? It appears to me that you’re ignorant of how important the Irish-American relationship is. We have more to thank the Americans for than the EU.

Most other countries are having a national day of mourning

Of course some are but not “most other countries.”

    We’re a bloody shame.

    Why?

You talk about ‘lefty morans’ while sounding so like a ‘right wing fascist’

I never used the words “right wing fascist”

We have a Government of hypocrites who will run off to Rome and kiss ass and claim to represent the Irish people.

Well, they do represent the Irish people because the Irish people voted them to represent us and run the country for us.

A poll on Sky News shows the vast majority (80% or more) wanting this day and another on TV 3 has 96% agreeing to a day

Well, if thats a Sky News Ireland poll, I don’t think many people actually vote on them (the Irish one I’m talking about). As regards the TV3 poll, well, their Target Market is actually the working class, so natuarally, they are quite left wing. The sophisticated population and those with professional careers don’t tend to watch TV3 News. I heard from a few people that TV3 News broke into Coronation Street last Friday to announce the pope had died – just to give you an indication as to how credible TV3 News are.

This Government needs to remember one truth. We do not work for THEM. They’re supposed to work for US.

Well they gave you a “socialist” budget for the year. (even though it was little different to what the hero of the celtic tiger, charlie Mc Creevey would have given, except with a few spin words.).

Of course tippguy mentions about those 15 and 16 year olds… Well of course they won’t go to Mass if they have parents with your values who give them the same example of money worship over God and the church

I don’t have that value, but we must work, we ned to keep the country going. Lets face it, if you like it or not, the reality is most people, even if they had the day off, they wouldn’t appreciate it or even bother going to mass. I would and I am, I don’t need the day off for it.

You should actually try to learn something from him and save your money grabbing soul.

Well, I think Pope John Paul II was a great pope. He did a lot for the church. His conservative views and consistancy kept the church stable. Do you agree with everything the pope said? I didn’t. I don’t shun the man or disrespect him for it but I will remmeber him for all the good things he did.

You’re entitled to your own opinion but so am I. I’ve agreed with some of the things you’ve said, but not all. I’d be very worried and quite scared in more ways than one if someone out there had the same opinion as me on absolutely every subject.

… oh and I’m convinced that a large proportion of Irish people are of the opinion that anytime the government needs money, all they have to do is print it and don’t actually need to tax people.

money, money money that’s what it about. Bertie’s statements on the matter have been confusing. We should have a day to watch the man’s funeral on tv. Even the Royal Wedding was put back because of the funeral- bad move Bertie.

A fan of Dana??? Oh please. Where did THAT come from? One attitude like that around here is enough.

A whiner ‘who’ didn’t benefit from the Celtic Tiger? Let’s see now. I’m not a politician or one of their cronies. I don’t exploit my workers. Yes…I guess it must have escaped me.

My God…you honestly and truly despise the ‘working class’ or those you consider beneath you, don’t you? You’re the worst kind of snob I’ve ever experienced. You must yearn for the days of the workhouse. Damn these peasants.

You also come across as extremely condescending…referring to one reporter “her south county Dublin posh accent and yet she seems to be so socialist.” Oh my God – bring out the garlic.

And as for TV3 News, their target market are “working class people” aged I think it was 20-45 around that – therefore, its left-wing, working class and biased and doesn’t coincide with my point of view and desire for a professional news service, which I why I don’t watch TV3 News, Your quote.

And As regards the TV3 poll, well, their Target Market is actually the working class, so natuarally, they are quite left wing. The sophisticated population and those with professional careers don’t tend to watch TV3 News. I heard from a few people that TV3 News broke into Coronation Street last Friday to announce the pope had died – just to give you an indication as to how credible TV3 News are.

I know I’m wasting my time here but can you see how that sounds? Recently the term ‘class racist’ has come about. You are truly a class racist. You seem to believe that ‘working class’ people have no intelligence and should be treated like dirt. And what to you is a working class person…apart from a dirty expression? To me it’s a person who works damn hard to provide for their family. They are expected to work all hours for minimum wage and have no time with their loved ones. To you of course, they’re not worth bothering with.

You’ll be at Mass on Friday? Go more often. That Christian attitude really needs some work.

You spoke in another thread… “Is there really a need for left wing trade unions like this in modern day Ireland?” God forbid someone should fight for workers rights to a fair wage. So no, there’s no need for unions like this. They’re too weak. We do need people like Jim Larkin to protect workers from employers who have the same mentality as you.

Again – 4th January… Was yesterday a bank holiday? Because if it was it didn’t stop me from working… When told by another poster that it was a public holiday, your condescending answer was It’s strange that they didn’t go to work yesterday In other words…how DARE people have a day off work.

Do you actually have a family of your own? Do you have a life outside of the office?

This is what you wrote to another poster – You’re a teenager, so I’m guessing you live with your parents now, but if you have a life that won’t be forever, – where do you think you’ll be able to afford a middle class home?

And you say I’ve gotten the wrong impression of you? I don’t think so. I’ve gotten the exact impression you’ve given…again and again and again.

You constantly claim to have stopped watching SNI yet you pepper this board with your fascist opinions on just about everything…often answering yourself…posting one after the other. I counted four in a row in one thread. Is this the only place you can talk? Perhaps people in RL see you coming and run. Or perhaps you just need the attention.

    To your recent post:
You say you wouldn’t be anywhere without money. Well, that answers that. It says so much about you.

Of course there are people in Ireland whose social life is about drinking and gambling but you seem to think that means everyone. Oh sorry…probably those plebs again. I forgot.

So you’ll probably watch the funeral yourself on Friday. You must work for yourself or have a better employer than most. You did say in another post that you sometimes watch the news during your lunch. You think a lot of businesses will allow employees to go to Mass and watch the funeral? You have far more faith than most then.

At the end of the day, Mr. Burns (no mistake there) you strike me as a very sad man whose life revolves around his work only and making money. Those beneath you are held in total contempt by you. They should work 24/7 for a pittance and shut up about it. After all, they’re there to serve. Well don’t expect me to doff my cap to you.

A fan of Dana??? Oh please. Where did THAT come from? One attitude like that around here is enough.

Record yourself talking for a while, then listen to Dana on TV3 News – you may notice some similarities!

My God…you honestly and truly despise the ‘working class’ or those you consider beneath you, don’t you?

I certainly do not despise anyone below me, nor above me. There are people that I wouldn’t associate myself with, probably people like you but I don’t think that makes me a snob.

I know I’m wasting my time here but can you see how that sounds? Recently the term ‘class racist’ has come about. You are truly a class racist. You seem to believe that ‘working class’ people have no intelligence and should be treated like dirt.

They’re all your words and with regards to taking the day off, couldn’t I say that you seem to think that employers should be treated as dirt. Shouldn’t they have a say in the matter?

They are expected to work all hours for minimum wage

… and the minimum wage is too high.

You’ll be at Mass on Friday? Go more often. That Christian attitude really needs some work.

Well, I’m I don’t have a BA in History but weren’t Hitler and Mussolini regular mass attenders?

You spoke in another thread… “Is there really a need for left wing trade unions like this in modern day Ireland?” God forbid someone should fight for workers rights to a fair wage. So no, there’s no need for unions like this. They’re too weak. We do need people like Jim Larkin to protect workers from employers who have the same mentality as you.

I was referring to how SIPTU are destroying a successful Irish company called Irish Ferries, or else known on the stock market as Irish Continental Group but that wouldn’t matter to you, you don’t have any shares in ICG nor would you give a damn if that company has to shut down the Ireland-France ferry route (which is going to happen if they can’t outsource the sailors and the reason they have to do that is for cost-cutting measures and the reason they need those is because their competitor on that route is Brittany Ferries and as far as I’m aware, but I may be wrong, that company is subsidised by the French Government) nor would your business be affected by the imminent Irish Ferries strike.

Do you actually have a family of your own?

    … I did the last time I checked !

Do you have a life outside of the office?

Well, I practically took four days off for Cheltenham (well three days really, the 17th was Paddy’s day.).

Touched a nerve there… you must be in my fan club.

You say you wouldn’t be anywhere without money. Well, that answers that. It says so much about you.

Well, what exactly are you saying there? That you don’t care for money? Are you retired?

They should work 24/7 for a pittance and shut up about it. After all, they’re there to serve. Well don’t expect me to doff my cap to you.

You must be mistaking me for someone else.

Even the Royal Wedding was put back because of the funeral

don’t you think that you have gone too far away from the topic. the poor pope has died and mr.byrne just wants everyone to know how great and rich he is. and as hard as you will find this to believe mr.byrne there are more important things to life than money. recently i travelled to zambia to help the poor people in their country and these people couldn’t care less how poor they are. they just want enough food to survive and to look after their children and mr.byrne thats what real people are about not selfish buisnessmen like you who sit in their offices all day bossing people around and looking down your nose at everyone. and if you plan on keeping that family motto at the end of your replies you might get it right. it should be “Certavi et vici” I have fought and conquered. you dumbass

Wow. All I said at the start was that I don’t think there should not be a national day of mourning, not on a week day anyway. I don’t think I brought richness and greatness into it and you seem to assume a lot about me, such as…

selfish buisnessmen like you who sit in their offices all day bossing people around and looking down your nose at everyone

… I am not an employer, nor do I have a 7 figure bank a/c – I’m not in the Upper class.

But you’re right, this conversation has got off topic and even at that there is no point in arguing about the national day of mourning, because its too late for that now!
