Simon Thomas quits Sky Sports News to focus on Football League Coverage

Simon Thomas has left Sky Sports News as a presenter to focus on Sky’s Football League coverage.

Breaking the news to his 137,000 followers on Twitter this morning, Simon said: ‘After 8 years I’ve left Sky Sports News to focus fully on Sky Sports Football League. Had a great time. Great production team and great banter with lots of co-hosts.’

Simon, who joined the 24-hour news channel in 2005, took up the role of lead presenter for Sky Sports’ Football League coverage in time for the 2010/11 season.

Former Sky Sports News presenter David Jones was the Football League presenter but moved over to front Sky’s Premier League coverage on Saturday’s and midweek following the departure of Richard Keys and Andy Gray.

Simon will host FL72 LIVE – A new live football programme showcasing the best fixtures from the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 at the regular time of 12pm on Saturdays.

Sky will broadcast seven matches in the first ten days of the new season, including 3 from the Championship, 1 from League One and League Two, and two from the Capital One Cup..

Saturday 3 August – Burnley v Bolton Wanderers – 12:15pm – Championship
Sunday 4 August – Derby County v Blackburn Rovers – 4pm – Championship
Monday 5 August – Preston v Blackpool – 7:45pm – Capital One Cup
Tuesday 6 August – Morecambe v Wolves – 7:45pm – Capital One Cup
Saturday 10 August – Accrington v Portsmouth – 12:15pm – League Two
Sunday 11 August – Leicester City v Leeds United – 4:30pm – Championship
