Samantha Simmonds BBC News Presenter

Samantha Simmonds is a news presenter at BBC News.

She joined Sky in 2005 as one of their main presenters regularly presenting the main morning, afternoon and evening programmes including the press previews.

Samantha has presented rolling coverage of the breaking news of missing Malaysian Flight MH370, the shooting of two police women in Manchester, the Batman cinema shootings, Michael Jackson’s death, the death of Amy Winehouse and the sentencing and subsequent hanging of Saddam Hussein.

Highlights for Samantha include preesnting live coverage of the London Olympics opening ceremony and presenting on location outside Buckingham Palace during the Royal wedding – covering “the kiss” and interviewing the crowds.

Samantha started reporting for BBC local radio in Yorkshire in 1995 before her first big break in TV – joining Channel 5 as a producer in 1996.

In 1997 Samantha became a producer for BBC News 24, before taking up a role as a reporter in 2000.

She went on to report for BBC Breakfast in 2001 covering the Soham murders and the explosion of Space Shuttle Colombia.

2003 saw Samantha became a reporter and presenter for BBC London. With the BBC, Samantha covered the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks from New York and reported on the 7/7 bombings in London.

Samantha is married with three young children who keep her on her toes.
